Quick question: In developer options usb debugging is activated and the OEM unlock option is there (yet unchecked). When I want to check OEM unlock I have to enter my PIN, after that I get a pop-up warning that tells me that if I check OEM unlock, the device will do a factory reset, disable Knox, etc. with next restart of the phone. Do I first need to complete the factory reset BEFORE step 6
and then check OEM unlock AGAIN in developer options before I continue with
    step 7,
boot into download mode and flash with odin?

    I think yes?

Or does the flashing make this all in one step?

I would be happy for an answer.. that’s the last thing I need to know before I connect my note do Odin.

(It was more fun to root and xpose Samsung devices a few years ago – before Note8 and Note9… )

I like this blog, found it after searching for Note9 pie root methods which are not older then a month, on YouTube . Your video was good and contained all info I was looking for, except the “OEM unlock and do i have to factory reset before booting into download mode?” question. Link below the video brought me here. The blog is bookmarked and i will recommend it as useful tech page for Android nerds with all information and softwarelinks that i need to root or flash..
Also i don’t need to check again and again a 500 threads like on XDA, until (IF) I finish collecting all the info and downloads and patches and fixes for the fixes for one routing method that works with my modelnumber, softwareversion…

You are welcome Alexander Sattler. You already made it easier for me by answering “YES”.

A quick Tips To Root devices that request Factory Reseting upon enabling OEM unlock:

*For some devices that are password protected, it will sure prompt you to input password before checking OEM on.

*This is what you should do if your device requests factory reset upon enabling OEM:
      1. Enable OEM and click wipe(Make sure you back up your personal info before attempting this!)
      2. As soon as the device finishes the wipe and attempts to reboot, quickly push the Bixby, Volume Down and power key, to force the device(Note 9) into Download Mode.
3.In Download Mode, confirm that OEM is OFF, RMM Pre-normal has changed to OFFICIAL.
      4. When all of these options are confirmed, pluck your Samsung device to PC, in Download Mode and flash Root package via AP with Odin3
      5. It is also recommended to always format the device in Recovery before flashing root package, and as well, format after flashing Root package to to have a clean boot and effective rooting experience.

Note also that when you format in Recovery, you are not to allow device boot up to home screen, “after format, boot back to download mode immediately and flash root package.”
